International Crimes Division Welcomes New Judges
The International Crimes Division staff on Thursday October 13, 2022 hosted luncheon at Arches Garden to welcome the Division's new judges; Hon. Justice Richard Wejuli Wabire and Hon. Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi.
Speaking at the luncheon, Hon. Justice Dr. Andrew Bashaija, the Head of the Division disclosed that the judges were coming in at a good time when there is an uplift of the court’s status and image. "We are now being funded since they realized we are actually a very active court and soon we shall be moving to new premises," he said.
The Division's head relayed apologies from the outgoing Justices; Hon. Justice Vincent Okwang and Hon. Lady Justice Elizabeth Alividza who couldn't attend the event. He however applauded their excellent work and contribution to the Court.
Hon. Justice Dr Bashaija equally received a plaque on behalf of Hon. Justice Okwang congratulating him upon his retirement, and in honor of his contribution to both the Judiciary and public service.
On different note, the Judge highlighted the need to start prayer fellowships, "We need to have the Lord between us at all times, even at work. I believe Hon. Lady Justice Alice Kumuhangi is God fearing so she can always guide us in these fellowships."
The new judges expressed gratitude towards the staff for the warm welcome, for being approachable and for exhibiting teamwork.
Hon. Justice Wabwire noted that he was happy to join the ICD family noting that staff are always available while Justice Susan Okalany commended the court staff for their undying support and time keeping.
On her part, the Division's Deputy Registrar, HW Stella Atingu observed that a luncheon of this kind also provides an opportunity for staff to acquaint themselves with each other.
The event was crowned with cake cutting and a dedicatory prayer from Hon. Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi.
